THE MAZE

A rat in a maze, I learned my trail.
I go to work, and I check my mail.
When the time comes, I always vote.
I play the game, don’t rock the boat.

I read the headlines as they go by.
I accept the norm, though with a sigh.
I stop at the signs, almost every time.
I don’t write it down, unless it’s a rhyme.

I watch all the news about all the killing,
Even though such news is so unfulfilling.
Caught in a maze, I was born this way.
No more can I do, no more can I say.

THE INFINITE ONE

We came from the sunset,
We came from the sea.
With two we have a duet,
With a trio we have three.

Springtime comes upon us all,
Then summer comes along.
Autumn comes, leaves must fall,
Winter will sing its sad song.

All the dust and snowflakes
And everything else involved,
We must do whatever it takes
To see every problem solved.

Every moment we are sleeping,
Every moment we are awake,
Every moment we are weeping,
We are crying for heaven’s sake.

Beyond this world, a universe lurks,
Beyond the stars and the sun.
Whatever happens, somehow works,
The infinite parts are all one.

THE HUMAN KIND

The unrest we are seeing
Is of the human kind.
Heaven is a state of being.
Hell is a state of mind.

All of this is in our nature,
This fighting is what we do.
It is part of our nomenclature,
Genetic, through and through.

The animals are restless,
The struggle must go on.
The violence is relentless
In this world we live upon.

As part of our evolution,
It goes on again and again.
There must be a revolution
Within the minds of men.

POETRY

Poetry that rhymes
May be out of fashion.
Unfortunately for me,
It is my passion.

Just like a king
Must wear his crown,
If it does not rhyme,
I don’t write it down.

MOMENTS OF BLISS

When I walk beneath the trees,
Upon my skin, the summer breeze
Blows gently, making me feel
The source of life, alive and real.

When I see the red, red rose,
My eyes believe, my nose knows
More than words can ever say
To explain this beautiful day.

As I walk across the grassy lawn,
Blue sky paints a canvas of dawn.
Birds are chirping a musical sound.
The chorus of life is all around.

The shades of color, shapes and form,
The wind and rain of every storm,
What artist could conceive of this,
The ecstasy, the moments of bliss?

HERE TO STAY

Many of us are sick and tired,
In the way the world is wired.
Violence is an epidemic,
Systematic and endemic.

No one ever seems to care.
It seems so rare to dare
To think about wrong or right.
Like animals, we just fight.

For so long, we watch and endure.
Our willingness is oh, so pure.
Whatever may come our way,
Humankind is here to stay.

GUN RIDDLE

Two men meet,
Walking down the street.
Each sees a gun
On the other one.

Each becomes frightened.
The paranoia is heightened,
So each draws a gun
And shoots the other one.

Hey diddle diddle,
Solve this riddle:
Two men meet,
Walking down the street.

One has a gun,
The other has none.
Which one is dangerous?
Which is safer for us?

TEN THOUSAND YEARS

Ten thousand years,
It has only been two.
Eight thousand more,
Before we are through.

How many more years,
How long will it take,
To save all mankind
For heaven’s sake?

Ten thousand years
After Jesus’ birth,
The meek may finally
Inherit the earth.

Ten thousand years,
Until heaven is at hand,
Until peace and harmony
Spread through the land.

While we all wait,
We still kill and hate.
Let us hope we survive
Before it is too late.

Ten thousand years,
Eight thousand more,
Until we realize
What we are here for.

Ten thousand years,
Until we all can say,
This speck in the universe
Finally found its way.

Ten thousand years
Ahead of his time,
Jesus was put to death,
Yet committed no crime.

He said to the soldier,
“Love your fellow man.”
The soldier replied,
“I do not think I can.”

He said to the hungry,
“Have faith you will survive,
Take care of each other,
Be thankful you are alive.”

He said to the rich man,
“Give money to the poor.”
The rich man replied,
“Let Jesus live no more.”

Soldiers and officials,
Working for the state,
Nailed him to a cross,
And Jesus met his fate.

Ten thousand years,
Until we can see.
Eight thousand more,
Before we are free.

Ten thousand years,
For a world insane,
To end hopeless hunger,
To end needless pain.

Ten thousand years,
For us to make amends.
Eight thousand more,
Before we are friends.

Ten thousand years,
It has only been two.
Eight thousand more,
For us to break through.

IT’S WEIRD

It’s weird we live on this planet.
It’s weird that I have a beard.
Whether or not we did plan it,
This whole damn thing is weird.

It’s weird what we kill and die for,
It’s weird what we all will endure,
It’s weird what a bird will fly for,
Even with the air so impure.

So close to friends and family,
With loved ones so endeared,
Beyond our lives and family tree,
This whole universe is weird.

Life is such a wonder,
And death is often feared.
Before we go down under,
This life is oh, so weird.

GUNS

Give me some guns.
I need me a gun.
Let me kill somebody,
And have me some fun.

We live in America,
That’s all you need to know.
Everybody get some guns,
Pull the trigger, let it blow.

I want an assault rifle,
With automatic fire.
I will kill me a dozen
Before I do retire.

Machine guns, Tommy guns,
Gatling guns and more.
Whatever gun it takes
To run up the death score.

How about a bazooka?
Or a tank, I don’t care.
Maybe I’ll get an H-bomb
If I am a billionaire.

Whatever it takes
To get our fill,
Let’s all get guns
And kill, kill, kill!
